Ms. Brown, a second grade teacher from Margaret Brent, took a few minutes to chat with us about her school and Project Based Learning. Here’s what she had to say:
How long have you been teaching?
I’ve been teaching for 10 years. This is my second year at Margaret-Brent.
What do you love about Margaret-Brent?
I like it because of the eclectic nature of the students, faculty and the fact that we have oodles and oodles of resources. Not every school has what we have and that’s exciting.
How has your teaching changed this year with the Project- Based Learning component?
I’ve been doing thematic units and projects since I started teaching. Most teachers who go to school for education do.
Can you describe a lesson or project you have done or are planning to do?
We’ve been working on making a food menu for a family of 4 for a week. We went through the food pyramid and nutritional facts on food items to see what’s healthy and what’s not. Now we’re moving into our multi-cultural section where we’ll look at foods from around the world. They’ve been working collaboratively in groups on these projects.
